About Fostering

Types of Fostering

Local Children
Local Carers

At New Chapters Fostercare, we offer various types of fostering to meet the diverse needs of children and young people. Each type provides specific support and care to help children thrive in a nurturing environment.

Respite Care

Providing a Break and Building Connections:
Respite care offers children and their adult carers a break from each other, much like children spending time with uncles, aunts, or grandparents. It allows children to form meaningful connections beyond their usual surroundings.

Emergency Fostering

Immediate Support in Urgent Situations:
When a child requires urgent care due to unforeseen circumstances, emergency fostering provides a temporary home with little or no notice. This ensures the child receives the physical and emotional support they need during a crisis.

Short-Term Fostering

A Bridge to a Long-Term Solution:
Short-term fostering involves caring for a child for an undefined length of time while plans are made for their future. This could lead to the child returning to their birth family, adoption, or another long-term care arrangement. Sometimes, short-term placements transition into long-term fostering if it’s in the child's best interest.

Long-Term Fostering

Providing Stability Until Adulthood:
Long-term fostering provides stability and security for children who need a home until they reach adulthood. Foster carers offer continuous support, helping children grow towards independence.

Parent and Child Fostering

Supporting Young Families:
Parent and child fostering, sometimes referred to as mother and baby fostering, involves both the parent and their child living in the foster carer's home. This arrangement provides a nurturing environment where the parent receives guidance and support in their parenting journey.

Remand Fostering

An Alternative to Custody:
Remand fostering occurs when a court specifies where a child must live as an alternative to being taken into custody. The duration is uncertain, depending on court dates and outcomes. It allows the child to remain in a family environment while legal matters are resolved.

Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC)

Providing Safety for Vulnerable Children:
Unaccompanied asylum-seeking children need foster families who can provide a safe environment. These children are often from war-torn regions or conflict zones and require sensitivity to a range of cultural, religious, and ethnic lifestyles.

Disability and Special Needs Fostering

Specialised Care for Unique Needs:
Some children need foster carers capable of coping with exceptional care needs. This includes a wide range of physical and/or learning disabilities, as well as complex health needs. Disability and special needs fostering provides tailored support to ensure these children receive the care they need.

About Fostering

What is Fostering?

Fostering involves providing a temporary home for children who cannot live with their birth families. It offers a safe and nurturing environment where children can heal, grow, and thrive. Fostering can be short-term, long-term, or even emergency placements, depending on the child's needs.
